My Oz Health Newsletter, March 2011

A thinking person’s monthly newsletter containing latest information and analysis about what is going on behind the scenes – governments, pharmaceutical companies, multinationals, drugs, food and health.

This is my way of hopefully raising awareness and interest in subjects that are being kept secret.
As Gandhi said, “Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is vital that you do it”

Honeybees on Strike

The ongoing phenomenon of mysterious honeybee deaths is raising alarm in the food industry, which depends heavily on bees to pollinate many critical crops. I tend to think maybe the bees are simply ‘on strike.’

They’re tired of being slave workers for the very humans who continue to destroy their habitat, pollute their air and water, and steal the labors of their hard work (honey, bee pollen and free pollination services).

Honeybees pollinate 130 different crops, which supply $15 billion worth of food and ingredients each year. One out of every three bites of food on your dinner plate was made possible by honeybee pollination.

In late 2008 beekeepers began to notice that unusual numbers of honeybees were dying. Beekeepers reported losing between 30 and 90 percent of their bees, in contrast to the usual 20 to 25 percent.

The phenomenon, which continued through to last winter, remains unexplained. Some of the potential reasons being investigated for the honeybee die-off are poor nutrition, invasive mites, diseases or toxins, air pollution, or a mysterious phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder, in which bees abruptly desert their hives and die (i.e. they go on strike).

In general, human beings have a very poor appreciation of all the services “provided” by Mother Nature, including the removal of CO2 from the air by plants, the turning of soil by worms, and of course the free pollination of crops and orchards by honeybees and other insects.

We’re talking about one-third of the human food supply here. If honeybees stop doing all the free work they’ve been doing to pollinate crops, humans are going to find themselves in very difficult situation regarding global food supplies. A global famine, especially when you combine the loss of honeybee populations with the situation of rapidly deteriorating soil quality across the world’s farmlands.

Without usable soils and willing insect pollinators, humans will quickly find themselves chewing on their shoelaces, wishing they could bring back the “good days” when honeybees freely volunteered to work, and farm soils actually contained nutrients.

The collapse of honeybee populations is just one sign of many that humans have pushed Earth’s ecosystems over the edge. We’ve polluted the skies, the land and the waters. We’ve raped the planet of its minerals, slashed and burned its rainforests, depleted its soils and devastated its wild animal population. We’ve dumped chemicals, radioactive waste and endless mountains of trash into the oceans and waterways.

And then we balk when nature hiccups. We scratch our heads, wondering why some element in nature that we’ve exploited for so long suddenly stops behaving in the way we want. Why are the ocean fish populations collapsing? Why are our food crops nutritionally depleted? Why are infectious diseases now threatening to unleash a new pandemic? Why are honeybees going on strike?

The answer, of course, is because humans have turned planet Earth into a toxic world. We’ve poisoned the one thing in the universe that openly and unselfishly offered to give us so much for free. Yet instead of appreciating Mother Nature, we’ve chosen to betray her. We’ve turned what was once an Eden into a toxic world, and it’s only a matter of time before the destabilizing, harmful practices we’ve adopted to feed an expanding human population come back to haunt us in a devastating way.

There is a tipping point where Mother Nature will simply refuse to cooperate, and this honeybee collapse is one sign that we may have already crossed a threshold, beyond which balance will only be achieved by a sharp decline in the human population.

Not coincidentally, the loss of food pollinators will cause precisely that. As I’ve said many times before, eventually humans will live in balance with nature. The question is whether we will consciously create that balance as a mature species, or if we will be starved into submission by a global ecosystem that refuses to support such a large population of human beings.

One thing for sure: The problem of rampant obesity is about to come to an end. A few years from now, the very idea that half the people in any nation could feed themselves into a state of extreme obesity will be considered outlandish.

The alarm bells are ringing, we have reaching the limit of the planet’s ability to absorb our pollution and environmental devastation. I sadly predict the human species is not mature enough to make the necessary forward-thinking changes, and that it will only learn from disaster. Prepare to live in a world where food and water becomes desperately scarce. Prepare for the possibility of seeing the human population eventually collapse in almost precisely the same way.

BITS AND BYTES

One of the most difficult parts of writing my newsletter is finding some good news to report. I haven’t given up trying to find good news but it seems, as we always suspected that bad news is more interesting.

Around 10 years ago I wrote a lengthy article on the health dangers of ‘depleted’ uranium used extensively as an effective weapon during the first Gulf War ‘depleted’ uranium is a misnomer, it is still toxic despite the usual official denials, can still cause brain tumours, can still affect the children and grand children of soldiers exposed to this nuclear waste.

These effects have been compared to Agent Orange from the Vietnam War, and it is still being used right now. Isn’t it enough that we are sending our guys to fight a bunch of bandits and then exposing them and their entire families to life-shortening and defective illnesses.

It seems the relevant government department is refusing to acknowledge there is a problem and have hidden behind the cop-out called ‘burden of proof’. This is the usual ‘support’ from bureaucracy, just give out some medals and hope it all goes away!

A classic example of NIMBY in action.

I should point out that the local population of the countries involved also suffer badly and will have to continue to suffer for centuries as their children play in the left over radiation.

As the singer Cat Stevens once prophetically sang, “Where do the children play?” A Good question.

Four basic facts

  • People want everything they think they need. But they want someone else to pay for it.
  • Political parties trade in a commodity called votes, which they buy and sell
  • Corporations have first loyalty only to shareholders
  • Corruption is inevitable The world will end when someone finds a way of destroying all the computers

New contraceptives misfire

A contraceptive device, fitted into woman’s arms, according to the TGA apparently doesn’t work. This implanted device is designed to stop pregnancy for three years by releasing hormones into the blood from a tiny tube in their arm.

Thousands of users have apparently become pregnant with reports of miscarriages, adverse reactions and ectopic pregnancies.

In my clinical experience many women spend their lives trying to avoid unwanted pregnancies and will go to great lengths to give it a miss. Most avoidance methods have drawbacks but I would have thought that permanently absorbing artificial hormones is an ill-advised idea obviously promoted by Big Pharma.

The drug company is blaming doctors for fitting the devices incorrectly. The TGA is saying the figures are incorrect and governments are finally admitting the mistake by offering some compensation.

I am surprised that more males don’t have a vasectomy (providing the situation is suitable) as it finally takes the pressures of unwanted pregnancies off the female mind.
Guys may be surprised at the enthusiastic reception from their partners. Both partners always report becoming much more relaxed when enjoying the freedom from worry.

Why This Sudden Milk Price War?

When it comes to multinationals be suspicious. They always have an ulterior motive with anything they do. The recent price cutting of local milk could have been a bid to force foreign produced long-life milk on to consumers.

Imported long- life milk is easier to handle and need not be refrigerated. Packaged overseas milk is heat treated and of little nutritional benefit.

Our local dairy farmers will be underpaid as a result of the lower prices, creating a shortage of fresh milk, sending farmers broke and creating more profit for the multinationals.

As my regular readers are aware fresh milk has plenty of problems as it is without this example of corporate greed.

HOW TO HANDLE RELATIONSHIPS

So many relationships are based on either selfishly taking without giving, or alternatively living someone else’s life and simply giving the other person what they want, to keep the peace.

The most important ingredient in a relationship is communication. Working on a relationship means creating a climate where people can grow on every level of their being, whilst working together in an environment where respect and caring for each other combines with close cooperation on all levels.

It is about being true to ones-self and each other. To communicate and deal honestly with the good and the bad and being mature enough to know your strengths and weaknesses. In that environment love must grow.

Is your partner meeting the criteria that you have set for a relationship? Are you being treated the way you wish? Are you being treated with compassion? Are you being treated with respect? Does the other person match their actions with their words?

It’s so very easy to say, “I love you”, there is a world of difference between loving someone and being in love!

What is your intuition saying? Are they matching your standards? Are you being manipulated? (Some people are very expert at manipulation). Importantly, are you happy?

If you receiving most of the above criteria, then congratulations, just make sure you are giving in return.

Always remember you don’t need a partner at any price. You need a partner for the right reasons.

We make all our decisions based on our knowledge, experience and emotions, and must accept responsibility for the repercussions. Have you learnt from any past relationship mistakes? Or are you on a continuum?

Cast off the baggage of uncertainty, fear and continuums. Neither the past nor the future can intimidate you when you affirm that you are a spiritual being that can love and be loved as never before.

Make certain that you have the right partner who brings sunshine and happiness into your life, with no hassles. Do not accept less.

Only then you will have the right partner to dance through space to the rhythm of the music of the universe.

Exclusive Breastfeeding Protects Against Infections

Once more we discover the incredible value of breastfeeding for the health of infants. In a study published in the Archives of Disease of Childhood, researchers found that exclusive breastfeeding for six months resulted in fewer infections of many types compared to babies who did not breastfeed or babies who were partially breastfed.

It also showed that the longer baby’s breastfed the more protection they had from infections (Ladomenoul, 2010).

Babies who were exclusively breastfed had less acute respiratory infections, less ear infections, less thrush, fewer episodes of digestive infections, and fewer hospitalizations. This study included 926 infants over the course of 12 months.

An interesting finding was that the protective effect of exclusive breastfeeding for six months resulted in less infections during the entire 12 months. This study was also different than others because it examined the effect of exclusive breastfeeding compared to partial breastfeeding with additional formula.

Partial breastfeeding had no substantial protective effect. Apparently, formula feeding decreases immunity. The authors suggest that their findings suggest an immunomodulatory effect of breastfeeding “hampered by the introduction of formula feeding.”

The results of this study should further encourage mothers to avoid formula feeding and exclusively breastfeed their babies for as long as possible. Breast milk is the ideal food for babies providing a robust immune system and protects babies from infections even long after weaning. The above advice is ok if we had a perfect world but sometimes milk is not there.

There are acceptable alternatives. The nearest to mothers milk is organic raw goats milk, if available. One of my own children was fed goats milk for years very successfully.

Just when you think well, that was some good news, along comes this little item…. Genetically modified baby formula is being sold in Australia without warning labels. The Brisbane Sunday Mail newspaper revealed that tests on the popular baby formula S26 soy show it contains genetically altered ingredients.

The manufacturers, chemical company Wyeth naturally claims it is safe. Greenpeace and Channel 7 who completed the tests have urged the government to take the product 0ff shelves.

FASHIONABLE STRESS?

Are we being brain- washed into being a bunch of nervous softies? What is causing so many people to be on ‘stress leave’? Being ‘stressed out’? What has triggered this inability to cope?

My generation lived in our teen years through World War11. My father also fought in World War 1.

My mother and I lived through the blitz bedding down under constant bombing, not knowing if we would wake up in the morning or if the house was still there this was stress. We just had a drink and got on with it. In contrast what has the current generation got to put up with?

They have a great standard of living, work shorter hours in a healthier environment, with better homes full of equipment resulting in fewer chores.

Also mind numbing entertainment. When we entered the real world at 14 we were ready for life’s challenges but it seems now no-one is prepared for coping with life, resulting in an explosion of counselling services, often by ill trained people.

I believe these interventions actually create problems where none existed, so why not learn to let go?
