My Oz Health Newsletter, June 2011
A thinking person’s monthly newsletter containing latest information and analysis about what is going on behind the scenes – governments, pharmaceutical companies, multinationals, drugs, food and health.
This is my way of hopefully raising awareness and interest in subjects that are being kept secret. As Gandhi said, “Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is vital that you do it”

How to store your nuts.
Science has proven nuts provide numerous beneficial health qualities. High in protein, fiber and good fats, they have shown the capacity for lowering bad cholesterol, reducing inflammation and contributing to heart health.
With all the good hype about nuts people are usually unaware they can spoil quickly in warmer climates. Many people assume nuts can be stored anywhere, in anything, simply because they don’t seem perishable; however, this is not the case.
Nuts can go bad under certain conditions leading to a poor taste and potential health hazards. If nuts have gone bad they can be soft when chewed or the taste may change altogether. At this stage it is too late for the nuts to be saved and they should be thrown out.
There is no known harm in eating stale nuts. Nuts have a very high oil content and this leads to a rather quick break down when left at room temperature. Nuts are good at room temperature for approximately one month but then need to be refrigerated in an air tight container to maintain freshness.
Storing in a fridge extends their shelf life to 6 months and if placed in a freezer, up to a year. Due to the low water content of nuts they will not freeze in a fridge and therefore there will be no loss of nutrients with any mild thawing. If you live in a cooler climate nuts will remain fresh longer, sometimes as long as three to six months at room temperature; however, it is still best to store them to prolong freshness.
Glass, plastic containers and plastic zip lock bags are OK for storage. Metallic containers, light, moisture and heat will all conspire to spoil nuts more quickly. Nuts have a tendency to absorb the odors from their immediate environment, so keeping them separate from other foods is wise.
Certain nuts will expire before others. Peanuts, pecans and walnuts are some of the first to go, with almonds and cashews being best. Nuts become chewy and soggy as they begin to turn and will eventually become rancid. To fresh up the nuts you can bake them in the oven on 350 degrees for a few minutes. (Source: naturalnews).
Using electronics before bed causes sleep disorders
There is often too much in our head as we lay in bed, trying desperately to catch some sleep before another busy day dawns. But are we addressing the root issues of our sleep disturbances? If you use electronics or communication technology before bed, research says you may be missing the real culprit.
The latest poll about the sleep habits of average Australians reveals startling evidence about the prevalence of sleep problems in our culture:
- More than 40 percent of Australians say they very rarely ever get a decent night of sleep during the work week.
- The percentage of Aussies who use electronics within an hour before bed is strikingly high: This includes the television, video game, computer or cell phone.
These statistics are not exclusive of each other. The fact is that checking your email, making a quick business call, or watching the news just before bed stimulates brain activity that prevents your brain from winding down to a state where it can easily relax in to a deep sleep. Not only that, but the unnatural light and radiation coming from television screens and computer monitors prevents the brain from making the neurotransmitters that encourage healthy sleep.
We live in a fast-paced world where some feel like they will get left behind if not taking advantage of what technology has to offer. But turning off technology at least one hour before bed may be the only real way to stay on top. Let’s face it: a sleep deprived individual cannot function as well as someone who is well rested. To really have the upper hand, you are going to need a good nights sleep to back you up with energy and focus.
So the rule of thumb is: no electronics for an hour before bed. Turn off the computer, keep the lights low, and read a good book or write in a journal. Both of these tasks are well known for their ability to induce sleepiness.
And remember that lack of sleep is not just unhealthy: it’s downright dangerous. When 40 percent of Australians are severely deprived of sleep that equals millions of drowsy drivers hurtling down our highways. Are you one of them?
Ninety percent of homes contain this health risk
With modern society being so rushed, there is often little time at the end of the day to prepare nutritious meals for families. Because of their super fast cooking times, microwaves have taken the world by storm. They may be cheap to purchase, but your health will pay the biggest price of all if you use this appliance to prepare or even heat meals. Because of the process used to heat and cook food in microwaves, they have long been linked to cancer, as well as other nutrient deficiencies in society today.
The process of causing water molecules in the food to resonate at extremely high frequencies and to convert to steam actually causes the chemical structure of the food to change. This causes food to lose almost 100% of its nutritional value, and it alters the taste.
Using a microwave to warm baby formula or breast milk is also a bad idea because it destroys almost all of the natural nutrients and goodness only found in breast milk, and it also converts trans-amino acids to be biologically inactive (synthetic). It destroys antibodies and bacteria-digesting enzymes that naturally occur in breast milk. An amino acid known as L-proline affects and causes nervous system and kidney damage. Our bodies cannot break down the foreign by-products which are created when food is micro waved.
Nutrients and vitamins in the food are either severely altered or even destroyed completely, rendering the food void of any nutritional value. Food prepared in microwaves has also been known to cause intestinal and stomach tumours.
Cancerous cells in the blood have also shown a remarkable increase in those who consume micro waved food on a regular basis. Even thawing foods out in a microwave is dangerous, as it leads to the formation of carcinogenic substances in the food. Chemical products from plastic, Styrofoam and even paper food containers are known to leech into food when they are micro waved in these containers.
BPA is one of the main culprits, which causes hormonal imbalances, lowered sperm count in men and various forms of cancer. Other side effects of consuming foods prepared in a microwave include memory loss, emotional instability, long-term brain damage, a severely weakened immune system, altered male and female hormone production and decreased levels of intelligence. A recent study has also shown that microwave frequency radiation affects the heart, causing symptoms such as chest pains and irregular heartbeat rhythms.
Those regularly using microwaves have been known to experience a host of symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vision problems, frequent urination and extreme thirst, night sweats, insomnia, appetite loss and other sleep disturbances. Increased cholesterol levels, decreased hemoglobin levels and a decrease in both red and white blood cell levels have also been reported.
Microwaves have been under suspicion since they first became available and there have been many articles on their dangers to human health, particularly babies. I think this is an important reminder.

Here’s an interesting snippet from Natural News
In an article in the latest American psychiatric journal a psychiatrist claims anyone eating healthy foods has a problem called ‘orthorexia nervosa “which means nervous about correct eating in Latin and naturally it needs ‘psychiatric’ treatment.
The inventors of this bizarre idea claim it stems from a type of obsessive compulsive disorder, as bizarre as it all sounds there are actually individuals out there that have fallen for this crazy tale that eating healthy is a disease, and some actually take these claims seriously.
In other words, eating processed foods filled with artificial chemicals, pesticides, and genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) is considered normal behavior, while eating raw, organic broccoli could potentially land you in a psychiatric hospital filled with pharmaceutical drugs designed specifically to treat your illness. “Only in America” I hear you say, as most of all this junk originates from there beware, organic will be next on their list.
More on toxic chemicals and vaccines
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently issued a policy paper condemning the current American Toxic Substances Control Act (TSC Act) for failing to properly regulate the tens of thousands of toxic chemicals used in various consumer products, many of which are especially dangerous to pregnant women and young children.
Though correct in its identification of chemical use as a toxic threat to society’s most vulnerable individuals, the AAP hypocritically continues to support the intramuscular poisoning of children through vaccinations, which are loaded with toxic chemicals that are directly injected into children’s bodies.
Several different groups have been pushing in recent years to have the TSC Act amended because it has utterly failed to keep tabs on the thousands of new chemicals introduced every single year in the US. Currently, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) only requires safety testing of some 200 chemicals, while thousands of others are specifically exempted.
And the EPA does not even properly test chemicals before approving them, anyway — it is basically a system of “safe until proven dangerous,” except the only ones doing the “proving” are the chemical companies themselves
“Children are not little adults,” said Dr. Jerome Paulson, a member of the AAP’s Council on Environmental Health, to Reuters Health, noting that children are most affected by chemical exposure. “Their bodies are different and their behaviors are different.
That means that their exposures to chemicals in the environment are different, and the way their bodies (break down) those chemicals are different.”
Paulson is right, which is what makes AAP’s stance on childhood vaccinations highly concerning. How can a group that openly condemns environmental chemical exposure continue to endorse chemical exposure via childhood vaccinations?
AAP is so in favor of vaccinations that it actually holds the yearly “National Infant Immunization Week,” which happens to be going on at the same time as the group’s open condemnation of the TSA Act. Vaccines, as most Myozhealth readers already know, are loaded with toxic chemicals like aluminum hydroxide, artificial dyes, formaldehyde, ethanol, Sorbitol, and Thimerosal (mercury) — all of which are pumped directly into human tissue.
On the one hand, AAP is right. Environmental chemicals are highly dangerous and need better regulation. But so are the medically sanctioned chemicals used in vaccines, which are linked to innumerable diseases and conditions. Sources for this story include: (http://www.naturalnews.com/vaccines…).
This is such a controversial subject I felt obliged to reprint the above article from NaturalNews (with minor editing) because of its obvious importance to anyone contemplating vaccination. There is a load of info for both sides of discussion on the net.
A New Way of Giving
I have something I simply must tell you about . . . something that really made my day. It left me with such a good feeling that I felt obligated to share it with you, and yes, it has a lot to do with the above title.
I recently received a package from my daughter Cindi and her husband Martin. The package contained a book and a lovely greeting card. Nothing unusual I hear you say . . . well not so!
What made these gifts so unusual was the way in which they were sent. When I called to thank them, they explained that they had designed and created the card they selected the book and had them sent to me from the comfort of their home using an online service called SendOutCards.
The card itself was like nothing I had seen before, on the inside was a wonderful collage of photos of three generations of my extended family and the note was written using their own handwriting. They further explained that they could also choose from over 15,000 pre-designed cards and a wide range of gifts for all occasions, including Gourmet foods, Movie and Gift Cards which truly surprised me.
Once you have selected your card, with or without a gift…you then simply click “send” and it’s sent out the next working day, postage paid, to any destination in the world.
I love the idea of this when I think of the many times I have had a fond recollection of someone I care for pop into my mind and have missed the opportunity to tell them how much I love or appreciate them, simply because I couldn’t act on that prompting straight away, I am always missing my kid’s birthdays, Do you? (Not to mention all my grand children, too many to remember, even their names). With this service you are able to act immediately . . . before you forget.
From a business perspective, I think it would be an excellent relationship building and referral generating. It is really simple to do.
As you can tell, I think it’s a marvellous idea and I highly recommend you check this out for yourself. If you’d like to send a free card to someone you care about now, Martin & Cindi have offered to help you act on your promptings.
You can do this by going to www.GoodWillSender.com once there, Click on “Send a free card”…when you do, a video will pop up and you’ll be walked through the whole process . . . you’ll be sending out your free card in minutes . . . enjoy!
Cloned milk, meat may soon hit store shelves
Recent statements made by U.K. Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Jim Paice seem to suggest that Britons may soon be ingesting cloned milk and meat but they most likely will not even be aware of it. Current laws everywhere are dubious on the issue of cloned food products, saying that a “novel food” application is required for approval, while also insisting that cloned food is no different from natural food.
But the rules do not specifically state the offspring of cloned animals require novel food approval. And Paice’s statement, which also supports the view of the European Commission on the issue, emphasizes support for the free sale of products derived from cloned animal offspring. Opponents of cloned animals insist that not only is cloning a form of animal abuse, but cloned animal meat and milk, including that of cloned offspring, has never been proven safe for human consumption.
Paice’s suggestion that food derived from the offspring of cloned animals is the same as that of natural animals suggests utter stupidity at best and a dangerous precedent at worst. Last August, the U.K. Food Standards Agency announced that cloned animal meat had already entered the food supply.
The FDA decided in 2008 to approve cloned meat for the food market, and at the same time did not establish any labeling requirements for cloned food products.

Is this really the way ahead? Real food is rapidly disappearing from our lives and becoming more and more plastic through mass production, mass marketing, debatable quality and the use of preservatives, flavourings, colourings and anything else to pervert our taste buds.
We must also be very conscious of the major increase in imported foods. Where has it come from? What are their food standards? (If any, particularly China and Asia).
Take a long good look at the labeling and don’t put too much faith in what it says. We need to all consider buying from and supporting registered Aussie organic growers. Genuine organic foods may be slightly more expensive than the plastic products from the big supermarkets but what price can you put on your health for a few extra cents?
So where do you get real certified organics? Several places actually. For my overseas readers you can look on the net for local suppliers, a lot of countries have very few rules or regulations, perhaps it is best to check with local farmers and buy direct, for local Queensland readers look for your nearest organic supplier and also farmers. Genuine Aussie organics are labeled.
You can try health food stores or take your chances with supermarkets but local farmers are more reliable.
A good answer for southeast and central Queensland is ‘Organic and Quality Foods’ who deliver a large variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, free range meat and eggs, specialty allergy foods and most grocery lines, plus they deliver to your door.
Their quality and service is first rate. Phone: 3275 3552 or go to: http://www.organicfoods.com.au
Tell them Michael totally recommends their service (I do this because I’m happy to help!
Have fun . . . I am, just had 82nd birthday, born to be wild!
